In the Store at Quilts 'n More
By Kathleen Allen

Spring has sprung and now we are talking summertime already. First, let me apologize for this being so late. I ended up being out of town longer than expected, dealing with a very ill elderly aunt. I am now back and am trying to catch up. So bring on summer.

We have lots going on in the next few months so you need to mark those calendars so that you don't miss anything. We still have an Art to Heart class and our ongoing Leap Year celebration.

In May we have our usual UFO and Fat Quarter Frenzy and Half Bolt Sale. Our main event is the last day of the month when Allison Bayer has two of her TLC for the Sewing Machine classes.

June brings the beginning of our kids' classes as well as a few basic classes. On June 14 we will host a one day workshop with Eileen Urbanek based on the book "One Block Wonder". We are offering our Camp Thimbleberries this summer in two formats - one in the store as a one day workshop and the other as a weekend retreat.

So as you can see we have lots happening in the next two months that you won't want to miss. And it's getting too warm to be in the garden so come sit in a class where it is cool.

Leap Year Celebration Is Extended to All Year
Remember we have decided to celebrate Leap Year all year long on the 29th of every month. We have one day sales on specially selected items, a free pattern giveaway, a doorprize, food, fun, and lots more. In June the 29th falls on a Sunday so we have decided to do something different--open the store from 2-5pm for our Leap Year Celebration. Those of you who work and usually can't come in on a weekday or Saturday, here is your chance to shop our specials.

Note Important Info for some special store closings in May and July.

Guest Speakers Coming to QNM
Mark those calendars for May 31 if you want to learn how to take care of your sewing machine. Allison Bayer will have a 2-hour workshop twice on that Saturday in which you will learn how to take care of your machine. We still have spaces open for the afternoon session that is 1:30-3:30pm. You'll cover thread and fabric jams, thread breakage, proper threading, de-linting safely, to oil or not to oil, and the mystery of needle sizes. You will actually bring your machine and learn to care for it. The cost per session is $40.

On June 14 Eileen Urbanek (a teacher from Quilt Country in Lewisville) will be in our store to teach a 6-hour workshop called "One Block Wonder" based on the book by Maxine Rosenthal. This class will put a new twist on the Stack n Whack technique, giving it a watercolor look. The class will be from 10-4 with a light lunch provided. The cost of the class is $40. Call the store for more info and to register.

Join the fun on UFO nights--May 9 and June 13

Kids' Classes Start in June
June is the month we start up our kids' classes. The theme this summer is "Are We There Yet?" with all of the projects centering around a vacation/travel theme. Our classes will meet each Monday from 9:30am-12:00 starting June 16-Aug 4. In each class we will do a different project so that if a participant has to miss because of camp or vacation, they won't be behind when they return. We ask that our participants be going into the fifth grade or older. The cost of each class is $25 which includes the class cost and a kit for the project except for the quillow class which will be $30 each session. A list of the projects and the dates are below. If you know someone who might be interested, call us and give us their name and we will send them the info for the classes.

June 23--Quilted Make-Up Bag
June 30--Chenille Curing Iron Cover
July 7--Quilted Photo Album Cover

Classes Coming in May and June
One of our most popular quilt patterns is the series of Fun and Done patterns. Using one of these patterns, you can make a quick cute quilt that is quilted while piecing the quilt. One of our employees Brenda Horvath will be teaching a class on this quilt-as-you-sew technique on June 28, 9:30am-12:30pm.

Some of you are still asking for a beginner paper piecing class. Deanna Haupers will teach Beginning Paper Piecing on Saturday, June 21, 9:30am-12:30pm.

For those who want to learn to machine applique, Jo Anne Spriggs will be teaching a class on Tuesday, June 17, 6:30-9:30pm. In this class you will actually applique a dishtowel.

We also have our usual beginner piecing and quilting classes. Check the class listing for times and costs.

Mesquite Guild's Raffle Quilt will be in our store on May 23 all day with tickets available.

Mystery Step of the Month Quilt
It began the 2nd Saturday in March, offering a pattern for the first step of six in piecing a quilt top. Pattern #2 will be ready on or after May 10. You can still pick up Pattern #1 anytime and join the fun. Here's how it all works. We know what the completed pattern will look like, but you will not. The cost is a $1 a pattern and you may pick up the pattern anytime from the 2nd Saturday on through the end of the month. You will select your fabrics, but we will be glad to offer some help if needed. If you purchase your fabrics here, we will give you a 15% class discount. Each month thereafter, another step will be available on the 2nd Saturday and through the month. At the end of the six monthly steps, we will have a Show It Off party with everyone's quilt tops on display, solving the mystery of what it looks like. So, get a group of your sewing pals and plan a certain day each month to come get your patterns and to make the step. Sorry, but we cannot do any pattern mail outs.

Join the fun and let's see how different the same pattern will look with a variety of fabrics.

Moda's Maypole collection has arrived and it's whimsically cute.

The cost will be $240 which includes meals, three kits and muslin backing. If you wish to have pretty backs, the cost is $260. If you wish to do only two of the projects, the cost is $35 less.

On Friday, June 27, the daylong workshop will be held at 10am-4pm at a cost of $115 with muslin backs or $135 with pretty backs. Cost includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and the three kits.
