2012 BOM's

Bella Verona begins in April

Nancy's Fancy begins in July

In the Store at Quilts 'n More

by Kathleen Allen

Christmas is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking about 2012. We saw lots of " stuff" at Market and got some great ideas for BOM's which I will share with you later in the newsletter. We have the 1st Saturday and 3rd Thursday $6 blocks planned out and classes for January and February are on the calendar. It almost sounds as if we are prepared to start the new year, doesn't it?

We have been doing Make and Takes during the whole month of November and from the response and comments, we have decided to continue making it a monthly thing for 2012. In addition, we are adding a late night shopping event once each month. We will also continue doing our Fat Quarter Frenzy and 40% coupons the last 10 days of the month as we have done this year.

Since January is just around the corner, it is once again time to start earning the QNM Bucks toward spending them at the Customer Appreciation Auction later in the spring. Read below for details.

Our first retreat for the new year is in February and is filling up quickly. You'd be surprised how much you can accomplish in just one weekend of uninterrupted sewing.

As you can see, there is a lot to tell you about so I'll end this rambling by wishing each and everyone of you a Merry Christmas and all the happiest the New Year has to offer. We appreciate your support and friendship throughout 2011 and we look forward to building our friendship even stronger in 2012.

End of Year Pre-Inventory Sale

Our annual End of Year Sale is currently in progress through December 30, during which everything is marked down. The discount ranges from 15-60% on all items. It is a great time to shop for Christmas gifts (be sure to tell your hubbies and friends what is on your wish list) or to stock up for those after the holiday projects.

Special Hours and Closures

Since Christmas and New Year's Day are on Sundays, we will be closed Christmas Eve, December 24, and New Year's Eve, December 31. The rest of the month of December we will have normal business hours. We will be open the Mondays after Christmas and New Year's Day.

2012 1st Saturday and 3rd Thursday

It is time to start the new year of our $6 1st Saturday blocks or 3rd Thursday blocks. The way it works is this: Come to one of our 3 sessions on the first Saturday in January and pay $6 for a kit. There will be two colorways from which to choose. Take the kit home, make the block, and return to one of the sessions on the first Saturday in February. If you attend the February session with your finished block, you receive your February kit free. This process continues each month through the year. If you must miss, you come by the store when you can, pay $6 and get the kit you missed, get it done by the next 1st Saturday, and get back on track. So with perfect attendance, you will have 12 blocks finished by the end of the year for a cost of $6.

The sessions on 1st Saturday are at 8:30am, 9:15am and 3:00pm. You are allowed only one free block on Saturday, but the additional blocks may be purchased for $6 each, including the Saturday blocks. On Saturday we will offer two blocks plus an optional kaleidoscope block. During the sessions we will discuss the month's block pattern, show the newest fabrics and notions received in the store, have show and tell from the participants, draw for doorprizes, and just have fun in general.

On 3rd Thursday there will also be two blocks in different colors but will coordinate with the Saturday blocks if you wish to use both. The process is the same to receive the free block: attend the 6:30 session on January 19, buy a $6 kit, make it and return in February to receive your next block free.

2012 Thimbleberries

It is time to start thinking about next year's Thimbleberries Club. Instead of one large quilt, 2012 Club will consist of four seasonal projects, with the fabrics for each project reflecting the season. The spring quilt is a 56" square called "Love Me Tender". Summer is a 58" square titled "Little Garden". Autumn is a 36" x 64" rectangle named "Twin Peaks" and winter is a 52" square called Christmas Kaleidoscope. All the projects plus four bonus projects, a stitchery sampler, and recipes are from a book called Pattern Party.

With the new Club format, our membership fee is $20 for a year plus $2 a month dues. If you join before December 30, membership is $15 plus the $2 a month dues. Because everything is based on the one book and there are less fabrics in the collection, the overall cost for kits is less than in the past, depending how it is paid. If paid monthly, the kit cost is $25.00 a month. If paid quarterly, the kit cost is $65 every three months. If you prefer to pay in one yearly payment, the kit cost is $250. With the membership, you receive a monthly newsletter, a color reference card and lots of fun and refreshments with a chance to win doorprizes. Come by or better yet, visit the Thimbleberries Club to see the 2012 projects and fabrics.

The Club will continue to meet on the 1st Saturday of each month at 10am.

Lots of BOM's Beginning in 2012

January 14--Kick off for Monthly Mini's. This year's monthly banners will be from the Art to Heart book "Count on It". The book will be purchased in advance. The banners will hang from a stand from which there will be a couple to choose. Kits will be picked up each month on the second Saturday of the month for a cost of $15 and will include fabric, batting, and backing for making the banner.

April 14--Kick off for the Mystery BOM. A 6- month mystery quilt culminating in a Show and Tell Brunch in October. Each month on the second Saturday a step can be purchased for $1. There will be multiple size options and the fabric choice is yours.

April 21---Kick off for Bella Verona, an 8-month BOM featuring an Italian-inspired textural palette designed by Wing and a Prayer Design. This queen-size quilt uses basic tools and piecing methods. Varying block sizes ranging from 4" to 10" combine to create a beautiful quilt resembling Italian tile work.

June 9--Wool Project of the Month. This is a 6-month BOM for those who love to work with wool. Each month there will be a wool project such as a candlemat, coaster, pin cushion, penny rug, candle wrap, etc.

July 14--Kick off for Nancy's Fancy, a 12-month BOM from Black Cat Creations in which the quilt blocks start out easy and progress to challenging, using lots of different techniques and giving tips to improve piecing skills. This quilt will be made with batiks and will finish at 80" x 90".

August--U-Taupe-ia. A 12-month BOM from Marti Michell composed of 12" blocks set with pinwheel frames. This quilt finishes at 87" x 109" and uses Template Sets A and C. The quilt will be made using soft grays, browns, and creams from the Daiwabo Collection.

Monthly Make and Takes

The Make and Takes were so successful in November, we were asked several times if we were going to continue to have them. We decided to give it a try and have monthly Make and Take Days. Each month we will offer one Make and Take project on two different days, one a weekday and one on a Saturday. We will keep the format the same as it was in November and keep the projects to being able to be done in less than an hour. We will have several kits from which to choose and we will provide the machine, thread and any tools needed to complete the project. All you have to do is walk in anytime between 10am and 5pm, sit down, and make it. The cost of the project will vary depending on the project.

January's Make and Take is a quilted sewing machine cover. We will offer it on Tuesday, January 10, and Saturday, January 28. The cost of the kit is $15.

February's Make and Take will be our Oreo Cookie pincushion. The days to make one are Monday, February 6, and Saturday, February 25. The cost of the kit is $5.

Late Night Shopping

Quilts 'n More is going to try something new--having one day a month for late night shopping. We know there are some of you who can't get here before 5:30pm so we are going to be open till 7pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. We feel that at times you may want to gather fabric for a quilt and dashing in at closing time doesn't allow that.

"Souper" Bowl Sunday Sit & Sew and Sale

Quilts 'n More will have its annual Sit and Sew on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5, from 1-6pm. We will have an early supper of soup as well as snacks and dessert. The cost for getting a chance to sit and sew uninterrupted with a light meal is $10. So, call to reserve a space, find a UFO and come join the fun.

During that time QNM will also have a sale in which you will draw to find your discount for shopping that day. Discounts will be between 15 and 30% on selected fabric and items in the store.

Fat Quarter Frenzy and Half Bolt Sale

The first Fat Quarter Frenzy and Half Bolt Sale of the year will be Friday and Saturday, February 10-11. If you need fat quarters or less than 3 yards of fabrics, our Fat Quarter Frenzy and Half Bolt Sale is the place to meet these needs. All fat quarters and half bolts will be on sale for the prices listed below.

Annual Customer Appreciation Auction Coming Soon

From January 2-March 31 Quilts 'n More will once again mint their own money, QNM Bucks. We then will match every dollar our customers spend with the funny money till the end of March. Quilts 'n More will then host a Customer Appreciation Auction in which the only money allowed to be spent is the QNM Bucks. We will have both a live and silent auction as well as a sale table. More details about the auction will come later. For now the thing to do is to start collecting the QNM Bucks whenever you make a purchase and to watch for the Double Buck Days.
